Return of the Heroes Tour 2011

The 306th BG Association Board of Directors voted at the Washington, D.C. reunion to join the East Anglia Air War Project's "I'll Be Seeing You: A Tour of the Airfields of the Mighty Eighth." The 306th Bomb Group's veterans and their families are going to tour wartime England one more time.

Dr. Vernon L. Williams, 306th BG Historian, and Ralph Franklin, director of the 306th BG Memorial Museum at Thurleigh, have joined together to produce some very special days at Thurleigh and the surrounding airfields. In addition to some extraordinary wartime venues scattered across the tour, the three days scheduled for Thurleigh-Bedford-Cambridge includes a reenactment of Glenn Miller's first concert and dance at Thurleigh (complete with a big band), fly overs of vintage aircraft, programs at the 306th BG Museum, visits to other bomb group museums and airfield sites, military vehicles demonstrations and exhibitions, jitterbug dancing demonstrations, the Memorial Day commemoration at the American Cemetery at Maddingly, meals in wartime pubs and visits to villages surrounding the airfields, a tour of the Duxford Imperial War Museum, and much more.
